Hidden Products defines products that customers should not discover through Order Editing upsells or product selectors. Use it for gift cards, free samples, shipping insurance, internal products, or anything that should never be offered after checkout.
Open App Settings > Global settings > Hidden Products.
Products tagged orderediting-hidden are always hidden. Any filters or raw query you add work alongside that default protection.
Select Edit hidden products.
Under the filter builder, add products or choose filters for product tags, product types, product names, or availability.
Review Products that will be hidden.
Use the country selector if Shopify returns different catalogue results for different markets.
Select Save hidden products.
The preview lists up to 50 products at a time and provides page controls when more results match. Check more than the first page when your filters are broad.
The filter builder can hide:
free products;
gift cards;
shipping insurance;
combined-listing parent products.
Filters are added to the raw Shopify query using OR logic, so a product matching any added hiding condition can be excluded.
For a simple product-by-product workflow:
In Shopify admin, open Products.
Select the product.
Add the tag orderediting-hidden.
Save the product.
Return to Hidden Products and confirm the product appears in the preview.
The app keeps this default tag condition when you save other filters. You do not need to add the tag condition manually to the query.
The Raw query field is the exact Shopify product search query used to find products that should be hidden. Use it when the filter builder does not express the catalogue rule you need.
For example:
tag:"internal" OR product_type:"gift card" OR title:insuranceThe filters below the raw field add clauses to the query, but they do not convert hand-written query text back into visual filters. Keep a copy of a complex query before making large changes.
If AI features are enabled for your organization, Add with AI can propose a query from a plain-language request. Review the generated query and product preview before saving; the preview, not the wording of the request, is the confirmation of what will be hidden.
Matching products are excluded from Order Editing upsells and product search or selection experiences. Hiding a product does not remove it from an existing Shopify order and does not automatically prevent edits to a line item the customer already bought.
To lock an existing line item, SKU, variant title, or option, use Editing Restrictions.
Preview the query with a country relevant to your store.
Confirm at least one product that should be hidden appears in the admin preview.
Confirm a similar product that should remain available does not appear in the preview.
Save the query.
Open an eligible customer upsell or product selector and search for both products.
Confirm the hidden product is absent and the allowed product remains available.
Repeat the check after changing product tags, catalogue availability, or a complex raw query.
Confirm that the saved query matches the product in the selected market. For the tag workflow, check the exact tag is orderediting-hidden, save the Shopify product, then refresh the customer page.
Review the raw query for a broad OR condition. Remove or narrow one filter at a time, then check the preview again before saving.
That is expected. Hidden Products controls discovery in upsells and selectors. Add a product tag, SKU, variant title, or option restriction when the purchased line item must also be locked.
Prefer a stable Shopify product tag when the same product group is managed repeatedly. Use the raw query for catalogue rules that genuinely need several fields or conditions.
