Order Insights are panels that Order Editing adds to an order page in your Shopify admin. They help your team understand what happened on one order without leaving the order page.
There are four panels:
Name in the Blocks menu | What it shows |
|---|---|
OrderEditing (order summary) | Editing status, holds, payment savings, and edit history |
OrderEditing (upsell strategy) | Upsell performance, products, strategies, warnings, and a link to the editing timeline |
Service Level Agreements | The editing rule that applied, when editing closes, and what the rule changed |
Address Validation | The address-check result and any suggested correction; collapses when validation did not run |
Two entries are named OrderEditing in Shopify's Blocks menu. One is the order summary and one is the upsell strategy panel. Add both if your team needs both views.
Open an order in your Shopify admin.
Find the Blocks section on the order page.
Select Add block.
Choose the Order Editing panel you want.
The first time you add the order summary panel, Shopify may ask for permission to read and edit the order. Select Grant access to continue.
Each panel fills in after its matching feature has run. An empty or not-triggered state can be normal when no rule, address check, edit, or upsell activity exists for that order.
The order summary panel shows:
Whether the order can still be edited and when the editing window closes.
Options to extend or disable editing when those actions are available.
Whether the customer has limited editing access.
Customer Order Editing history and a staff-edit status indicator when available.
Fulfillment hold information for supported fulfillment setups.
Payment processing fees that Order Editing saved on the order.
Orders older than Shopify's editing limit cannot be edited. The panel explains when editing is no longer available.
The upsell strategy panel combines performance metrics, operational warnings, assigned strategies, product results, and a shortcut to the editing timeline modal.
The metrics table can include:
Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
Upsell events | How many offers were viewed and converted |
Accepted or Declined | Customer responses to offers |
Product removed | An accepted upsell the customer later removed |
No offer shown | A strategy ran but did not return an eligible offer |
Order total | The order's current total |
Upsell revenue | Revenue from products attributed to Order Editing upsells |
Purchased products | The number of purchased upsell products compared with products shown |
Upsell share of order | Upsell revenue as a percentage of the order total when both values use the same currency |
Impressions | Recorded product views |
Conversion rate | Purchased upsell products divided by products shown |
Amounts include a currency code when the order currency differs from the store currency.
The panel also shows where offers appeared, the average time between viewing an offer and adding it to the cart, assigned strategy links, and the products that were viewed or purchased. Purchased products appear first. Select Show more when more than three products are available.
Status chips call attention to conditions that can affect post-purchase offers or reporting, including unsupported payment methods, free orders, currency mismatches, and unavailable strategy details.
These warnings explain why an offer may not have appeared or why some strategy and revenue details may be incomplete.
Select View editing timeline in the upsell strategy panel, or choose View editing timeline from the order page More actions menu. Either path opens a modal with the most recent Order Editing activity for that order. Each row shows the event, category, detail, and time in UTC.
The timeline can include these categories:
Upsell: offers viewed, accepted, paid, declined, removed after being accepted, or returned without an eligible product.
Hold: Order Editing or ShipHero hold placement and release results.
Capture: payment capture attempts and results.
Reversal: automatic unpaid-edit reversal attempts and results.
Expiration: editing-window and expiration decisions.
Cancellation: cancellation requests, retention outcomes, completions, and failures.
Support: events that require merchant support.
Edit: committed edits created through Order Editing.
Close the modal when you are done. If loading fails, select Retry.
Internal Order Editing events are available from July 2026 and are retained for 120 days.
If the checkout reference is unavailable, pre-order upsell events are omitted.
A partial label means the displayed counts are minimums because older matching events are beyond the fetch limit.
A truncated label means only the most recent matching events are displayed.
Shopify's native order timeline remains separate. Use it for Shopify-generated entries such as order changes, payment activity, and fulfillment events.
The Service Level Agreements panel explains which editing rule governed the order. It shows the rule name, when editing closes, and any features or customer messages changed by the rule.
Use View Rule Details to open the applied rule or Manage All SLAs to manage your editing rules.
The Address Validation panel shows the result of the shipping-address check. Depending on the outcome, it can show the original address, a suggested or accepted correction, and the address events recorded across checkout and customer account pages.
If address validation did not run for the order, the pinned panel collapses. Use Verify delivery address from the order page More actions menu to open a modal and check the current shipping address. When the panel is expanded, you can also select Verify address (or Verify address again) in the panel to open the same modal.
A live provider lookup may count toward the store's configured address-validation usage.
They are two different panels. The order summary shows editing status, holds, and edit history. The upsell strategy panel shows upsell performance and opens the editing timeline modal.
Most content is read-only. The order summary panel can also extend or disable the editing window and, for supported fulfillment setups, hold or release the order.
A panel fills in after the matching feature runs. If no editing rule applied, no address check ran, or no upsell or editing activity was recorded, the related panel can show an empty or not-triggered state. When address validation did not run, the Address Validation panel collapses. Use Verify delivery address in More actions to check the shipping address.
The order panel reports activity available for that specific order and within the timeline fetch and retention limits. A partial or truncated label tells you when the panel cannot display the complete event history.
