Order Editing is a Shopify app that helps customers manage an order after checkout. It brings three related jobs into one app: self-service order changes, product upsells, and address validation.
You can use one product area on its own or combine them around the same customer journey.
Product area | What it helps customers do | Merchant outcome |
|---|---|---|
Editing | Make approved changes to an existing order | Fewer support tickets and avoidable cancellations |
Upsell Strategies | Discover and add relevant products during checkout or after purchase | More revenue from existing customer journeys |
Address Validation | Review address issues and accept suggested corrections | Fewer delivery problems and manual corrections |
Order Editing does not give every customer unlimited access to a Shopify order. It checks your settings and the current order before showing or accepting a change.
The experience can depend on:
which Editing blocks you enabled;
whether the customer is inside the editing window;
which Editing Rules and Automations match the order;
the order's products, payment, address, fulfilment, and cancellation state;
the permissions and extensions required by the feature.
This lets you offer useful self-service actions while keeping changes inside the limits your operations can support.
A typical journey looks like this:
A customer checks out or returns to an existing order.
Address Validation can identify an address issue and suggest a correction.
An Upsell Strategy can show a product offer that matches the placement, market, customer, and order.
Editing lets the customer make the actions you allow while the order remains eligible.
Successful changes update the existing Shopify order before it moves through your fulfilment process.
The customer may use only one of these parts. For example, a customer can correct an address without accepting an upsell, or add a product without changing anything else.
Customer-facing features can appear in supported Shopify checkout, post-purchase, Thank You Page, and Order Status Page experiences.
Customers see only the actions and offers that are available for that surface and order. If a product is unavailable, a rule does not match, or the order has moved too far into fulfilment, that option may be hidden or blocked.
Use the main Order Editing navigation to move between the product areas:
Analytics shows performance across editing, upsells, address validation, and customer experience.
App Settings contains Editing blocks and Global settings.
Upsell Strategies controls placements, targeting, products, offers, design, and advanced settings.
Address Validation controls address verifiers, autocomplete, rules, usage, and results.
For one transaction, the Shopify order is the final record of the current products, totals, address, payment, and fulfilment state. Order Insights and the editing timeline add Order Editing context to that order. Analytics helps you understand patterns across many orders.
Start with the product area closest to your immediate goal:
Open App Settings to reduce support requests with self-service order changes.
Open Upsell Strategies to create product offers.
Open Address Validation to reduce address and delivery problems.
Open Analytics after activity begins to measure the result.
You do not need to enable every product area at once. A small, tested setup is easier to understand and expand safely.
