Shipping Recalculation controls how delivery rates, customer shipping choices, and free-shipping thresholds behave after an order changes.
Open App Settings, select Global settings, then open Shipping Recalculation. The page itself is titled Delivery because it also contains customer shipping methods, free-shipping tiers, pickup-order behaviour, and rescheduling settings.
Open Recalculation, then choose the mode that matches your fulfilment setup.
Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
Re-calculate shipping for all shipping methods | Recalculates eligible rates after relevant order changes. |
Re-calculate only when free shipping eligibility changes | Updates shipping when the order moves into or out of free-shipping eligibility, without routinely switching between paid rates. |
Disable all shipping method edits | Prevents customer shipping-method changes. |
Hide shipping rates and recalculate in the background | Keeps rates out of the customer experience but still recalculates them. |
Hide shipping rates and recalculate free-shipping thresholds only | Hides rates and limits recalculation to free-shipping qualification. |
Use a hidden-rate mode when customers should not choose a rate but the final order still needs correct shipping logic. Use the free-shipping-only mode when a carrier or fulfilment app should continue to manage paid-rate selection.
Under Eligible Shipping Methods, add the methods Order Editing may recalculate.
Use Exact Match for a complete, stable shipping-method title.
Use Keywords when several method titles contain the same word or phrase.
Exact matches are safer for one known service. Keywords are useful for variations such as Ground or Express returned by more than one carrier.
Review the method names on real Shopify orders. A method that does not match this configuration will not follow the expected recalculation path.
Use Minimum Cost Threshold to control the smallest shipping-cost difference that should be charged after recalculation.
For example, a store may absorb a very small increase but charge the customer when the difference is larger. Set the threshold to zero when every applicable difference should be handled.
The threshold is not used in the same way when you select the free-shipping-eligibility-only mode, because that mode focuses on the change between paid and free shipping.
Open Carrier-Calculated Rates and confirm the source for each eligible method.
Source | Use it for |
|---|---|
Delivery Profile | Standard rates configured in Shopify delivery profiles. |
App | Rates returned by a third-party carrier or shipping app. |
Older saved configurations may show an unset or legacy source. Review those entries before relying on recalculation.
Open Free Shipping Upgrades and select the shipping methods that can be upgraded when an edited order qualifies for free shipping.
As with recalculation, you can use Exact Match and Keywords. Include only methods that can safely become the free option. Do not include a paid express service if customers should be allowed to keep it.
Global free shipping tiers define the cart value a customer must reach for free shipping in each destination and currency. Upsell strategies use these tiers by default unless a strategy overrides them.
For each tier, review:
destination or market;
customer-facing tier name;
currency;
minimum cart value;
whether the tier is for subscription orders.
Select Import from delivery profiles to review thresholds detected from active Shopify delivery rates. Choose the countries to import, then check the imported names, currencies, and values before saving.
Delivery-profile imports are a starting point. Retest after changing a Shopify delivery profile, market, currency, carrier app, or free-shipping threshold.
Open Customer shipping methods and choose whether to show or hide available shipping methods during an order edit.
The methods table shows whether each discovered method is visible, whether it is eligible for recalculation, and its rate source. You can also use exact titles and case-insensitive keywords to hide methods such as Pickup, In-Store, or Replacement.
Some merchant shipping integrations do not support customer shipping upgrades. When the app reports an unsupported integration, keep customer shipping methods hidden and test the supported background-recalculation path.
To configure the customer-facing editing block in more detail, see Shipping Methods.
Open Pickup Orders if customers with pickup orders should be able to switch to shipping.
Under Advanced fulfillment, use Keep fulfillment delivery method title the same as the original order when a warehouse or fulfilment integration relies on the original title and should not receive a renamed method after an edit.
Open Reschedule delivery to manage the methods for which customers may choose another delivery date. Rescheduling depends on customer shipping methods being available and on the connected delivery integration supporting the workflow.
For the complete configuration, see Reschedule Order Delivery.
Save the Delivery settings.
Choose existing eligible orders that together cover each important market, currency, and shipping-rate source.
Add or remove an item so the order weight or value changes.
If enabled, change the address and shipping method.
Confirm the rates shown to the customer match the selected mode.
Cross a free-shipping threshold in both directions.
Complete any additional payment and confirm the final shipping line in Shopify.
Confirm the fulfilment or carrier system receives the expected method and title.
Reuse each representative order while refining the setting. Create one new controlled order only when an important market, currency, or rate source is not represented by any existing eligible order.
Confirm the recalculation mode, eligible method match, rate source, order fulfilment state, and availability of a rate for the edited cart and destination.
Use Exact Match when the complete method title is stable. Use Keywords when carrier-generated titles vary but share a distinctive word or phrase.
Check that Shopify or the selected carrier app can return a rate for the edited products, destination, market, and checkout profile. Order Editing cannot present a rate the source does not return.
A strategy can override the global tiers. Strategies without an override use the global configuration.
