If you're still set on parting ways, you can follow the steps below to safely uninstall Order Editing. The app will guide you through a 3-step process to restore your store's payment settings before you remove it. This prevents orders from getting stuck in a pending state after uninstalling.
Warning: Your Order Editing configuration may use manual payment capture. You must switch back to automatic capture before uninstalling, or new orders will remain in "Payment pending" status until you manually capture them in Shopify.
Check for any orders that are currently in the editing window. These orders have authorised payments that haven't been captured yet. Order Editing will release them during the uninstall process, but it's good to be aware of them beforehand.
Note: If you're just looking to temporarily disable Order Editing without uninstalling, you can pause your subscription instead. Reach out to our team via live chat from within the app.
Open Order Editing and start the uninstall process. The app will warn you that switching back to automatic payments may affect other apps that rely on manual payment capture.
Open the Order Editing app in your Shopify admin.
Navigate to the uninstall preparation screen.
Review the warning about payment capture changes.
Click Continue to proceed.
Warning: If you use other apps that depend on manual payment capture, switching to automatic may affect how those apps process payments. Check with those apps before proceeding.
The app will guide you through switching your Shopify payment settings from manual back to automatic capture. This restores Shopify's default behaviour so payments are charged immediately at checkout.
Click Open Payment Settings to open your Shopify payment settings in a new tab.
Find the Payment capture section.
Select Automatically capture payment for orders.
Save your changes.
Return to Order Editing and click Continue to uninstall.
Once the app confirms your payment settings have been restored, you're safe to uninstall.
Click Open Apps Settings to go to Settings > Apps and sales channels in your Shopify admin.
Find Order Editing in your installed apps list.
Click the app, then select Uninstall.
Success: Your store is now configured for automatic payment capture and Order Editing has been removed. Shopify will handle payments normally.
Any orders that are currently authorised but not captured will still need to be captured manually, or Order Editing will capture them before you uninstall. New orders placed after the switch to automatic capture will be charged immediately.
If you uninstall without switching, new orders will remain in "Payment pending" status until you manually capture them in Shopify. This can cause fulfillment delays and customer confusion.
Your Order Editing configuration is stored separately. If you reinstall, your settings may be available. However, analytics and historical data retention depends on your subscription.
Yes, you can reinstall Order Editing at any time. You'll go through the payment setup process again to enable manual capture for order editing functionality.
If you've already switched to automatic capture but decide to keep using Order Editing, you'll need to switch back to manual payment capture. You can do this from the Payment Authorization Setup screen in the app.
