Order Editing includes a gallery of prompts for Shopify Sidekick. In this tutorial, you will open the gallery, ask Sidekick about your current setup, and learn how to recognise a staged change that still needs your approval.
Sidekick can explain supported Order Editing data and prepare selected forms. It does not automatically save or publish an Order Editing configuration.
You need:
access to Shopify Sidekick in your Shopify admin;
permission to view the Order Editing information you want to ask about;
existing setup, order, strategy, or analytics data for questions that depend on it.
Shopify controls Sidekick availability for each store and staff account.
Open Apps > Order Editing in Shopify admin.
On Home, find the Sidekick card and select Browse prompts.
On Sidekick prompts, browse the categories or use the search field.
The gallery groups prompts into:
Readiness for setup and integration checks;
Analytics for editing, upsell, and customer results;
Orders for eligibility, timelines, and address checks;
Strategies for upsell configuration and performance;
Configuration for recent setting changes;
Actions for supported forms Sidekick can prepare.
You can also ask a question directly from the prompt bars on Analytics and Upsell Strategies.
Start with a question whose answer you can confirm in the app.
In the gallery, select Is Order Editing set up correctly?
Order Editing opens Shopify Sidekick with the prompt.
Send the prompt.
Review the readiness findings and any links Sidekick provides.
Check the important result against the corresponding Order Editing page.
For example, confirm an extension warning in App Settings, a strategy status in Upsell Strategies, or an order result in Shopify admin.
The current app and Shopify order remain the source of truth. Sidekick's answer depends on the supported data available at the time of the request.
Return to Sidekick prompts and choose a prompt that matches the job you are doing. Useful examples include:
Can order #1001 still be edited?
What happened on order #1001?
Which upsell strategies are performing best?
What editing settings changed recently?
Replace example order numbers or time periods with the information for your store. A specific order number, strategy name, or date range usually produces a more useful answer than a broad request.
The current prompt gallery can prepare selected changes, including a Thank You Page upsell, an editing rule for subscription orders, or an address-validation rule for PO boxes.
Open the Actions category.
Select the action prompt closest to your goal.
Send it to Sidekick.
Follow Sidekick back to the Order Editing create page.
Look for the confirmation that the configuration was staged.
Review every field Sidekick filled in.
Complete any required market, product, condition, or installation setting that is still missing.
Preview or test the result where available.
Select Publish or the page's save action only when you approve the configuration.
A staged form is not live. It must pass the same validation, permission, plan, and installation checks as a form you create manually.
Include the outcome, scope, and important limits. For example:
Create a Thank You Page upsell for Australian orders over $100. Recommend one active sock product and do not add a discount.
After Sidekick stages the form, still confirm the placement, market, customer rules, product, price, extension installation, and status.
Do not include passwords, API tokens, private credentials, or unnecessary customer information in a prompt.
You have completed the tutorial when:
a gallery prompt opens Shopify Sidekick;
a read-only answer can be checked against Order Editing or Shopify;
an action prompt opens a staged form rather than publishing a change;
you can review or discard that form before saving it.
If Sidekick is unavailable, confirm access with your Shopify administrator. If an answer is empty, try a known order, strategy, or date range. If a staged form is incomplete, resolve its validation messages and required fields before saving.
