How Discounts Affect Rewards Bar Progress

Understand which amount the Rewards bar counts and why applying a discount can change progress.

Which amount counts

When your Rewards bar counts Cart subtotal and Every product counts, it uses the product subtotal after product discounts and order discounts. It uses the same calculation in the checkout content block, checkout offers and free-shipping placements.

Shipping charges and separately charged tax do not increase progress. Tax already included in product prices stays in the subtotal.

For example, a cart with $100 of products and a $20 order discount counts as $80. For a $90 target, the bar shows $10 remaining.

Why progress can go backwards

Applying a discount or removing a product can reduce the counted amount below a reward target. Removing the discount or adding products can increase it again. The bar refreshes when the counted subtotal changes, including when the amount of an existing discount changes.

Product discounts already reflected in the subtotal are not subtracted a second time.

Goals limited to selected products

When only selected products count, the bar adds their line totals after product discounts. It does not divide an order-level discount between those selected products. This can produce a different result from counting the whole cart.

Goals based on Number of items or Items with a product tag count quantities, so applying a discount does not change their progress.

Check the calculation

Add products to your cart and continue to checkout. Apply and remove an order discount, then check the amount remaining on the bar. You do not need to place an order.

The bar displays progress only. Configure the actual shipping benefit, discount or gift separately; reaching a displayed target does not itself grant a reward.
