Order Editing decides whether a new order qualifies for an Order Status Page upsell. When it does, Order Editing sends an Upsell Offers Available event to Klaviyo. A Klaviyo flow can then email the customer a link back to the offer.
Klaviyo sends the message. The customer views and accepts the product on Shopify's Order Status Page, not inside the email.
You need:
a Klaviyo account connected to Order Editing;
permission to create or edit a Klaviyo flow;
an active Product Carousel or Featured Product Upsell on the Order Status Page;
at least one complete, enabled product module;
a test customer with an email address.
If Klaviyo is not yet connected, follow Integrating with Klaviyo first. One-Click Upsell does not use this Order Status Page event.
The event setting appears only for placements that support Order Status Page eventing.
Open Upsell Strategies and create an Order Status Page strategy.
Complete its market, name, WHO, and WHAT sections.
Open ADVANCED.
Expand Integration events.
Under Events, select Klaviyo.
Set the strategy to Active and select Publish.
Open the strategy in Upsell Strategies.
Confirm it uses Product Carousel or Featured Product Upsell on the Order Status Page.
Select Show Advanced Strategy Settings.
Open Events and select Klaviyo.
Confirm the strategy is Active, then save it.
Place a new order that matches the strategy's market and WHO rules.
Use the test customer's email address.
Confirm the strategy has at least one eligible product for that order.
In Klaviyo, open the test customer's profile.
Find the Upsell Offers Available event.
The event is created for new matching orders. Enabling Klaviyo on a strategy does not create events for older orders.
Open Flows and create a new flow.
Choose Metric as the trigger.
Select Upsell Offers Available.
Add an email to the flow.
Edit the email and add a button that returns the customer to their offer.
In Preview & test, choose the test event and copy the OrderStatusUrl event variable.
Use that copied variable as the button link.
Preview the message with the test event before changing the flow to live.
Klaviyo event variables are case-sensitive. Copy the variable from Preview & test rather than typing its template syntax. Klaviyo's current instructions are available in How to use event data to personalize email and SMS flows.
Always use OrderStatusUrl from the event. Do not build an order-status link manually because each link belongs to a specific customer and order.
Other useful event details include:
Property | Useful for |
|---|---|
| Identifying which Order Editing strategy matched. |
| Reusing the strategy's offer message where appropriate. |
| Adding supporting offer detail. |
In Klaviyo, use Preview & test with the Upsell Offers Available event created earlier.
Confirm the email renders with the expected strategy and offer content.
Select the offer button in the preview or test message.
Confirm it opens the correct Shopify Order Status Page.
Confirm the Product Carousel or Featured Product Upsell is installed by reviewing the Order Status page in Shopify's checkout editor.
The first controlled order provides the event needed to build and preview the flow. You do not need a second order to check the event data or link. Run another order only if you choose to verify the live flow timing and a real add-to-order update after the flow is enabled.
In Order Editing, confirm:
Klaviyo is connected;
the strategy is Active;
Klaviyo is selected under Events;
the placement is Product Carousel or Featured Product Upsell on the Order Status Page;
the new order matches the market and WHO rules;
an enabled module returns an eligible product;
the order has a valid customer email and Order Status Page URL.
After correcting the setup, one new controlled order is required because changing the strategy does not resend an event for an existing order.
In Klaviyo, check the flow trigger, message status, timing, consent, suppression, and any flow or trigger filters. Preview the email with the same event to confirm the message can render.
Remove any manually entered order URL. In the Klaviyo email's Preview & test panel, copy OrderStatusUrl from the event again and use that event variable as the button link.
