Address Autocomplete suggests complete addresses while a customer types. It can reduce typing and common address-entry mistakes at checkout and when a customer edits a shipping address after purchase.
Order Editing uses Experian for these suggestions.
Accept address-validation usage charges before enabling the service on a live store.
Autocomplete and address verification share the same credits and monthly spending cap.
The first 110 combined checks are free under the current in-app allowance.
Checkout autocomplete requires Shopify Plus and the supported checkout extension.
Post-purchase autocomplete requires Shipping Address Edits and the Order Editing block on the customer page you use.
A country must be one of your store's shipping countries before you can select it.
In Order Editing, open Address Validation.
Find the Address autocomplete service card.
Select Manage.
The page shows whether the service is Active or Off.
If you see Address validation usage charges required:
Select Configure usage charges.
Review the country-based price, shared credit allowance, and monthly cap shown for your store.
Approve the Shopify usage subscription.
Return to Address autocomplete.
Confirm the billing warning has cleared.
Development stores can bypass usage charges for testing. On a live store, reaching the configured spending cap can stop new billable autocomplete or verification checks until usage becomes available again.
Turn on Enable address autocomplete.
Under Autocomplete countries, choose the coverage you want.
Review the preview.
Select Save.
Confirm the message Address autocomplete is active appears.
To turn the service off later, clear Enable address autocomplete and save. This stops autocomplete suggestions but does not remove your address-verification rules.
Option | Behaviour | Default |
|---|---|---|
All shipping countries | Uses autocomplete in every country the store currently ships to | Selected for a new configuration |
Selected countries | Uses autocomplete only in the shipping countries you choose | Requires at least one country |
The page will not save an enabled Selected countries configuration with an empty list. Use a smaller country rollout when you want to test suggestion quality and usage before expanding.
Checkout autocomplete is available for Shopify Plus stores.
From the Address Autocomplete page, open the checkout setup resource.
Open Shopify's checkout editor for the checkout profile customers use.
Add or enable the Order Editing address-autocomplete extension.
Save the checkout profile in Shopify.
Return to Order Editing and confirm Enable address autocomplete is on.
Confirm the customer's shipping country is included.
The Order Editing setting and the Shopify extension are both required. Turning on the service does not install the extension.
Open App Settings > Editing blocks > Shipping Address Edits.
Confirm customers can edit their shipping address.
Confirm the main Order Editing block is installed on the Thank You Page or Order Status Page you use.
Turn on Enable address autocomplete under Address Validation.
Include the customer's shipping country and save.
The order must still be eligible for a shipping-address change. Autocomplete does not override the editing window, fulfilment state, editing rules, fraud controls, or other restrictions.
Browsing suggestions while typing is free. A check is recorded when the customer selects a suggestion.
If the selected address is also verified, autocomplete and address verification use one combined check rather than charging twice. Both services draw from the same credit allowance and monthly cap.
Autocomplete helps enter the address. Address Validation applies your configured verification and rule behaviour to the completed address. A suggestion can reduce mistakes, but it does not guarantee carrier acceptance or delivery.
Customers can review a suggested address and continue with their own entry when appropriate.
Confirm the Address Autocomplete page shows Active.
Confirm the required Shopify extension or Order Editing block is installed and saved.
For checkout, add a product to the cart and continue to checkout. For post-purchase editing, open an existing eligible order in an included country.
Type part of a valid street address.
Confirm suggestions appear.
Select a suggestion and confirm the address fields are filled correctly.
At checkout, confirm the selected suggestion fills the address fields; you do not need to place the order. For post-purchase editing, save the address change.
After processing, review Address Validation usage or analytics for the selected suggestion.
Repeat with an excluded country and confirm Order Editing autocomplete does not appear.
Check, in this order:
the service status is Active;
usage billing is approved and the spending cap has not been reached;
the country is included in the configuration;
the applicable Shopify extension or Order Editing block is installed;
for post-purchase editing, the order is still eligible for Shipping Address Edits;
for checkout, the store has Shopify Plus and the active checkout profile contains the extension.
If a country is missing from Selected countries, add it to the relevant Shopify market and shipping setup, then return to the Address Autocomplete page.
