Open App Settings > Global settings > Payment Capture. The protections appear after delayed payment capture is enabled. Select Advanced settings for payment terms and capture conditions.
For the end-to-end setup, see Payment Capture.
When Order Editing is managing delayed capture, three protections are available and are on by default.
Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
Never capture orders likely to resolve in a chargeback | Excludes orders Shopify marks high risk. Staff must review and capture them manually if approved. |
Always refund customers for unused portions of their payments | Releases uncaptured funds after the editing time when a customer reduces the order total. |
Capture payments before the authorization window closes | Attempts capture before an authorization expires, including when an order remains on hold. |
Turning off a protection changes only that safeguard. It does not turn off delayed payment capture.
Allow Order Editing to read your payment terms lets the app recognise deferred-payment orders such as net-14, net-30, and net-60. It requires Shopify's read_payment_terms permission.
When enabled, Order Editing can avoid treating a pre-qualified payment-terms order as an ordinary unpaid order. Shopify remains responsible for the agreed payment schedule.
Capture Conditions add requirements that an authorized order must meet before Order Editing captures it.
Condition | Options |
|---|---|
Required Order Tags | Require all selected tags or any selected tag. |
Required Fulfillment Status | Fulfilled, Unfulfilled, On Hold, or Partially Fulfilled. |
Required Order Risk Level | High, Medium, Low, None, or Pending. |
Conditions are optional. Add only those required by your warehouse or risk process; an empty or overly narrow condition can stop otherwise eligible payments from being captured.
Use an order with an authorized, capturable payment.
Confirm the order matches every configured capture condition.
Let the editing window end.
Check the payment status and order timeline in Shopify.
Repeat with an order that should fail one condition and confirm it remains uncaptured.
Grant Allow view access to payment terms, then return to the page. The toggle remains unavailable without the Shopify permission.
Check delayed capture is enabled, Shopify is still set to manual capture, the authorization remains capturable, and every Capture Condition matches. Review high-risk exclusion and the order's fulfilment status as well.
Confirm Always refund customers for unused portions of their payments is enabled and the editing window has ended. Payment-provider timing can affect when the released amount disappears from a customer's account.
