Order Editing Notifications controls the emails and analytics events triggered when customers interact with Order Editing. You can configure notifications for order edits, outstanding balances, self-service cancellations, reversed edits, and Klaviyo analytics events.
Open App Settings, select Global settings, open Organization, then select Email Notifications.
Configure how customers are notified when their order is edited. This includes adding or removing items from their order.
Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Send customers an email after each new order edit | When enabled, customers receive an email confirmation from your Shopify store each time their order is edited. This keeps customers informed and provides a record of their edits. |
Send customers invoices and reminders when they have an outstanding balance on their order after edits are made.
Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Send customers an invoice by email after adding a product to their order | When enabled, customers receive an email from your Shopify store with the invoice after a product is added to their order. |
Send customers a reminder email after two hours to pay for their order | When enabled, customers receive a branded reminder email before the order expires if they haven't paid their outstanding balance. This sub-toggle only appears when the invoice email above is enabled. |
Tip: Enabling the reminder email can significantly improve your collection rate for outstanding balances. Customers get a gentle nudge two hours after their edit if they haven't completed payment.
Configure notifications sent to customers when they cancel their own orders. Learn more about order cancellations.
Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Send customers an order confirmation email if they self-service cancel their order | When enabled, customers receive an email confirmation from your Shopify store after they cancel their own order. This gives them a record of the cancellation. |
Send notifications when order edits are automatically reversed due to non-payment or other conditions. For example, if a customer adds items but doesn't complete payment before the editing deadline, their edits can be reversed and this notification will let them know.
Setting | Description |
|---|---|
Send customers an email when their order edits are reversed | When enabled, Shopify will automatically send the customer an email confirmation notifying them that their order edits have been reversed. |
Send analytics and events to Klaviyo. These integrations let you trigger custom email flows in Klaviyo based on Order Editing events, giving you full control over the messaging and design of your transactional emails.
Klaviyo Event | Description |
|---|---|
Send order edits reversed emails with Klaviyo | Triggers an event in Klaviyo when an order edit is reversed. Use this to build custom Klaviyo flows for reversed edit notifications. |
Send customers their upsell invoices with Klaviyo | Triggers an event in Klaviyo when a customer has an upsell invoice. Use this to customise how upsell payment requests are sent. |
Send customers their updated order confirmation after payment | Triggers an event in Klaviyo after a customer completes payment for their edited order. Use this for custom post-payment confirmations. |
Send order edited emails with Klaviyo | Triggers an event in Klaviyo when an order is edited. Use this to replace the default Shopify edit notification with a fully branded Klaviyo email. |
The current Klaviyo metrics are Order Editing Reversed, Order Saved with Payment Owed, Order Upsells Paid, and Order Editing Saved. Select Configure Klaviyo integration beside a use case to manage the connection and event settings. When a Klaviyo flow replaces a default customer email, disable the corresponding default notification to avoid duplicates.
The same section also links to PostScript setup for the Order Editing Saved and Order Saved with Payment Owed events.
Yes. If you enable a Klaviyo event alongside the default Shopify notification for the same action, customers will receive two emails. Disable the default Shopify toggle when you activate the corresponding Klaviyo event.
The default notifications are sent through Shopify, so the content and design follow your Shopify notification templates. For full control over email content and design, use the Klaviyo integration to trigger custom email flows instead.
If the two-hour reminder is enabled, the customer receives a follow-up email. If they still don't pay, the order edit can be automatically reversed depending on your Reverse Unpaid Order Edits settings.
Yes. You'll need to connect your Klaviyo account in the Order Editing integrations settings first. Navigate to App Settings > Global settings > Integrations, find the Klaviyo section, and click Connect Klaviyo.
Use the default emails for the simplest setup. Use Klaviyo when your team needs branded templates, flow conditions, timing controls, or segmentation. Test one event at a time and confirm the default notification is not sending the same message.
