Use the Contact Information editing block when customers should be able to correct the email address or phone number attached to an order. You can also let signed-in customers apply the new details to their Shopify customer profile.
Decide whether a change should apply only to the order or also be offered as a customer-profile update.
Customers can use the block only while their order is editable.
In Order Editing, open App Settings.
Select Editing blocks.
Open Contact Information.
Turn on Allow customers to edit their contact information.
If customers should also be able to update their Shopify customer profile, turn on Allow customers to update their login information.
Save the changes.
The page preview shows how the available controls will appear to a customer.
Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
Allow customers to edit their contact information | Lets a customer save a new email address or phone number to the order. Shopify and connected services can then use the corrected order contact details for later notifications. |
Allow customers to update their login information | Adds an option for a signed-in customer to also update the email address and phone number on their Shopify customer profile. If the profile email changes, the customer may need to sign in again before continuing to edit. |
The second setting does not replace the first. Keep Allow customers to edit their contact information on whenever customers should be able to correct the order itself.
When the block is available, the customer can edit the contact details attached to the current order. If profile updates are enabled, they can also choose to update their Shopify customer profile.
This distinction matters because an order contact and a customer profile are different records:
Updating the order helps future notifications for that order reach the right email address or phone number.
Updating the profile changes the customer's saved Shopify account details for future account use.
Select the translation action at the top of the Contact Information page to change the customer-facing labels for the languages supported by your store. Review the translated profile-update text carefully so customers understand that it can affect their sign-in details.
Open an existing controlled order that is still inside the editing window.
Open the customer editing experience.
Confirm the contact-information option appears.
Change the order email address or phone number and save.
Confirm the corrected value appears on the Shopify order.
If profile updates are enabled, test with a signed-in customer and confirm the additional option appears.
Confirm Allow customers to edit their contact information is enabled and saved.
Confirm the order is still eligible for editing.
Confirm the Order Editing extension used by the customer is installed and visible.
If you are testing profile updates, sign in to a customer account before checking for the additional option.
