Create or open an upsell strategy and choose its placements, markets, name, and customer targeting first.
Your store needs recent order history for the module to identify bestsellers.
Products must still be available for purchase when the offer is generated.
Hidden products and other strategy eligibility rules can remove a product from the result.
In the Shopify admin, go to Apps > Order Editing.
Select Upsell Strategies.
Open an existing draft strategy or start a new strategy from Placements or Templates.
Continue to the product selection step.
Select Add Module.
Choose Recent Bestsellers.
Set the maximum number of products to return.
Configure the offer text.
If the module is being used as a follow-up offer, configure the follow-up discount when that field is available.
Save the module and continue through the offer, design, and advanced steps.
Preview and publish the strategy when the complete customer experience is ready.
Unlike a manual product module, Recent Bestsellers does not ask you to select catalogue products. It builds the recommendation from products that sold during the previous 30 days.
The module requests products using recent best-selling order. Order Editing then applies availability and strategy rules before showing the final set.
A product can be omitted when:
it is no longer available for purchase;
its relevant variants are out of stock and your inventory settings hide them;
the product is hidden from upsells;
it is already excluded by the current strategy or module sequence;
another eligibility requirement for the customer or placement is not met.
The result can change over time as the store's recent sales and inventory change. It is a dynamic recommendation, not a fixed list.
Setting | What it controls | Default |
|---|---|---|
Maximum products | The largest number of eligible products the module can return | 10 |
Offer text | The heading or message shown with the recommendation | Current strategy default |
Follow-up discount | A discount for the follow-up offer when the module is used in that position | No additional discount unless configured |
You can set Maximum products from 1 to 10. This is a limit, not a promise that ten products will always be available.
Use concise offer text that still makes sense when the returned products change. Avoid naming a specific product or collection in the heading unless the module is constrained elsewhere to that exact result.
The strategy checks product modules in their configured order. Place Recent Bestsellers where it supports the intended journey.
For example:
Put a tightly targeted manual or compatibility module first, then Recent Bestsellers to broaden the choice when needed.
Put Recent Bestsellers first for a general store-wide campaign driven by current demand.
Keep the number of modules and returned products focused so customers are not shown an unnecessarily long offer.
Module order does not override strategy matching. The strategy must first match the placement, market, customer, and order.
Customers see the eligible products available at the time Order Editing builds the offer. The exact products can differ between visits because sales rank, inventory, market availability, and cart or order contents can change.
Accepting a recommendation follows the payment and order-editing behaviour of the selected placement. For example, an in-app addition can become part of the edited order, while a supported checkout offer follows the checkout flow.
The module does not label a product as a bestseller unless that wording is part of your configured offer text or placement design.
Confirm the strategy is assigned to a placement installed on your test surface.
Confirm the strategy's market and customer targeting match your test customer.
Check that the store has products sold in the last 30 days that are still available.
Open Preview and confirm recent eligible products and the expected offer text appear.
For a Checkout placement, add a product to the cart and continue to checkout without placing an order.
For Thank You or Order Status, use the relevant page in Shopify's checkout editor.
For One-Click Upsell, use the Order Editing placement preview.
Publish the strategy when the appropriate preview is correct.
Recheck the preview after inventory or availability changes to confirm unavailable products are not offered.
The maximum is only a cap. Fewer products appear when the store has fewer eligible recent bestsellers or when inventory, hidden-product, market, duplication, or strategy rules remove results.
No. Use a manual product module when you need a fixed product list. Recent Bestsellers is designed to update from recent sales automatically.
It uses recent best-selling product information from the previous 30 days.
The returned list can change as recent sales, catalogue availability, inventory, and customer context change. Preview it before important campaigns and after major catalogue updates.
Confirm the store has recent sales, eligible products are available for purchase, the strategy matches the previewed market and placement, and hidden-product or inventory rules are not removing every result. If it remains empty, start a live chat from within Order Editing and include the strategy name, preview route, market, and expected products.
