Pre-orders Order Editing lets you configure editing permissions for pre-orders (orders older than 60 days). Without this setting enabled, customers won't be able to make changes to these older orders.
You'll find this at Settings > Pre-orders Order Editing.
Configure whether customers can edit orders that are older than 60 days.
ℹ️ Pre-orders are defined as orders placed more than 60 days ago. Control whether customers can edit these older orders.
Setting | Description |
Order Editing has permission to identify and manage pre-orders | When enabled, Order Editing will identify orders older than 60 days as pre-orders and allow customers to edit them. When disabled, these older orders are excluded from the editing experience entirely. |
💡 Tip: Enable this if you sell products with long lead times or allow customers to place orders well in advance of shipping. This gives those customers the same editing flexibility as customers with recent orders.
Shopify's standard order management treats orders older than 60 days differently in terms of payment authorisation and processing. Order Editing uses this same threshold to identify orders that may need special handling.
If disabled, customers won't be able to edit orders placed more than 60 days ago. These orders will not show the order editing block for the customer.
The editing deadline still applies to pre-orders. Once the deadline passes, the order is locked from editing regardless of when it was originally placed. This setting simply controls whether those older orders are eligible for editing in the first place.
If you have Shopify Flow automations that interact with older orders, you may need to review and disable any conflicting flows to ensure they don't interfere with Order Editing's pre-order management.
