How to Add a Countdown to a Scheduled Offer

Show the time remaining until a strategy ends, and check when the countdown is hidden.

Before you begin

This guide applies when Countdown timer is available in your content-block templates. It requires Shopify Plus and a supported Thank You, Order Status or customer account placement. Contact Support if the template is unavailable.

The countdown uses the strategy's scheduled end date. Set a real end date before adding it. Shoppers do not see this countdown in checkout, when the strategy has no end date, or after that end date has passed.

This guide covers the countdown content block. The One-Click page customizer's timer is a separate control.

Add the countdown

  1. Open the strategy and set its scheduled end date.

  2. Under Offer layout, select Add content block.

  3. Create a block using Countdown timer.

  4. Edit Message to explain what is ending.

  5. Insert Time left where the remaining time should appear, for example Offer ends in $time.

  6. Review the timer's format and icon in Appearance.

  7. If the block includes a heading or description, choose Above the timer or Below the timer for its text position.

  8. Save the block.

  9. Save the strategy.

Keep the message short enough to read on mobile. The timer follows the strategy's end time; do not use it to imply a deadline that the offer does not have.

Reuse a block in a campaign

A shared countdown block can appear in more than one strategy. Each strategy needs its own end date. Campaign membership does not set a common deadline automatically. Review schedule warnings if the promotion should end at the same time everywhere.

Check the result

Preview the strategy on a supported page and confirm the wording and remaining time. Check narrow layouts, including when the displayed time is longer than it is now.

If the countdown is missing, check the placement, block status, strategy end date and whether the deadline has passed. A checkout preview is not evidence that shoppers can see this countdown in checkout.
